Ms Rodes was a great saleswoman who was intuitive and excellent in mesmerising every customer who dropped in. She was a senior sales staff at a family-owned retail store in Salem. In the last 10 years, she has converted more than 5 lakh customers who walked in. She has not allowed even a single walkout in her entire retail career. The owners felt that she was the vein of the store. The colleagues at times scoffed at her for her uncanny loyalty to the store.
On a fine evening, she happened to witness one of the salespeople at a nearby counter trying to sell to a customer. She noticed that the salesperson was quite up to snuff. However, she missed a natural intuition to read the customers. She, from afar could completely understand her customer and took the onus of converting the same customer on her behalf. Rodes’ prowess intrigued her colleague’s customer and paved the way for upselling as well. Rodes’ riveting attitude helped her colleague fetch a 5 % extra incentive. Rodes’ prowess made someone powerful in sales.
Moral: Being prowess doesn’t make any difference unless the skill is used to uplift a dilettante colleague.
